Entering anything into the MSN search bar redirects you to the Bing search engine. The interface is incredibly simple, with four icons to the top right taking you to menus for favorites and history, an icon for tools, one for settings, and one to bring you back to the home page. There is no clutter and tabs are quite thin - even more so than some competitors.

Our take
Internet Explorer is a basic, decent browser. No new-fangled add-ons or extensions, no bells and whistles. If we could describe it in one word, ‘standard’ would be it. It can handle searches, bookmarking, videos at a decent resolution, and some light browser games. Don't look to do too much with this browser besides surface activities like researching, reading, and some occasional downloading of small files.
Should you download it?
You should download Internet Explorer if you're a very basic internet user. If you prefer paper books to Kindles, and writing letters to texting, this browser will be up your alley. You can watch videos, but after testing a few on YouTube, switching to another tab and then back again would cause the browser to crash. Avoid websites with a lot of ads and graphics, as those will make IE crash as well. This browser has come a long way in terms of speed with most sites loading in about three seconds or less. With that said, there are more things that you can't do than what you can, especially if you're trying this browser out after using others like Firefox or Chrome. No extensions, no heavy downloading, and playing browser games is nearly impossible for an extended amount of time.

The Windows-based Ubuntu Installer (Wubi) allows you to install and uninstall Ubuntu from within Microsoft Windows. It lets a Microsoft Windows user try Ubuntu without risking any data loss due to disk formatting or partitioning.
Wubi requires Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP, Vista, Windows 7.
NOTE: Hibernation is not supported when installing Ubuntu via Wubi.

Download Wubi from the Ubuntu Windows Installer Download page, this will download the latest version by default. You can download other versions of Ubuntu
Install Ubuntu
- Within Microsoft Windows, place your downloaded ISO in the same directory as the Wubi, and run the installer.
- In the Installation Drive list, select the drive that you want to install Ubuntu.
- In the Installation Size list, select the amount of space that you want to allocate to Ubuntu.
In the Desktop Environment list, select Ubuntu. If you wish to install Kubuntu, Xubuntu or another official derivative of Ubuntu, select your preferred one from the drop-down list.
- In the Language list, select your preferred language.
- In the Username box, enter a username for your Ubuntu account.

Microsoft releases Windows 1.11 via the Windows Store. As a follower of Microsoft on Twitter it was intriguing to see the corporation teasing Windows 1 and its various applications last week. Windows 1.0 1.04. Windows 1.0 was the first release of what eventually made it onto almost every desktop computer in the entire world. Many of you are probably unaware of this release from 1985; conceived from ideas found in the original Lisa/Macintosh and Xerox Star system, Windows 1.0 was Microsoft's attempt at a graphical multitasking operating environment for the IBM PC. Microsoft brings nostalgic Windows 1.11 with 1985’s ‘Stranger Things Edition’ into the Microsoft Store. Microsoft’s official Twitter account had been running a teaser dedicated to Windows 1.0 earlier this week with hints that it could likely be related to the Netflix exclusive ‘Stranger Things – Season 3’.
Windows 3.x was the first to gain significant development and commercial traction. It combined the 8086, 286, and 386 modes of Windows 2 in to one package. It replaced the MSDOS Executive with a Program Manager and File Manager similar to those in OS/2 1.x. Much of its success was spurred by the availability and success of Microsoft Office. Although Microsoft would have had you believe otherwise, Windows 3.x was the direct foundation for Chicago/Windows 95.

Windows for Workgroups 3.11 adds a 386-protected mode networking stack. It includes support for NetBUI and IPX protocols, numerous network cards, a client for accessing remote printers and files shares, and a print and file server. TCP/IP is available as a seperate add-on. The use of protected mode networking software frees up more of the conventional 640k for DOS programs, and simplifies configuration.

Later in the week it went on to boast about the attraction of the available applications such as 'Excel, Chart, and even Flight Simulator'. Then, towards the end of the week, we saw some hints that this was a Netflix-cross promotion, via a couple of teaser videos.
Initial speculation was that Microsoft was going to release an open-source Windows 1.0 via GitHub, like it recently did with the Calculator app. However, with the Netflix tie-in it became clearer that this was some promotional scheme leveraging 1980s nostalgia, like the Stranger Things show. Microsoft's promotion coincides with the Stranger Things TV series season 3 appearing on the popular video streaming service, a show which is set in 1985.
If you head on over to the Windows Store today you will find the Windows 1.11 app. This 'entertainment' category app weighs in at over 775MB (equivalent to approx 570 HD floppy disks), which is rather more weighty than the original operating environment which was a little over 500KB.
The Windows 1.11 app does appear to emulate the UI of the first version of Windows but inside you will find various Easter eggs and secrets that tie it in with Stranger Things from Netflix. Some of the surprises might be more than one would expect from a copy of Windows - as this app is rated T for violence and language. With Windows those are normally supplied by the user…
I've not seen any of the new Stranger Things season or tried out this new app, so below I have reproduced Microsoft's teasing description of Windows 1.11:

I want to share with you my nightmare experience attempting to install Pro Tools 11 on my new Windows 10 machine, and share the solution I found, so that anyone in the same boat as I was in can be saved hours of headache and hair-ripping.
I couldn't install Pro Tools 11 on my brand new Windows 10 PC due to Pro Tools forcing me to install an outdated and unsupported PACE License Support. Every time I would run the PT11 installer, when it asked for a reboot after the install completed, my computer would not boot back up. It would repeatedly crash on the 'dots spinning in a circle' startup screen, turn into 'attempting repairs,' and then bring me to the boot recovery menu. From there I would have to select 'startup repair' which would seem to act as a sort of system restore - when it successfully boots up again my computer would not have Pro Tools or the iLok License Manager/PACE installed anymore but everything else would be intact.
At this point I was very scared that Pro Tools 11 wouldn't work on my PC, but my previous Windows 10 laptop ran it just fine so I was very confused. I tried installing Pro Tools 10 as well and got the same crashing. After some experimenting I found the culprit: I began the installation of Pro Tools 11 only to where it installs PACE License Support, and didn't actually install Pro Tools. It asked me for a reboot and then the same crash sequence happened.
This told me that PACE License Support was the cause of the crashing. But I remember I had previously installed the latest version of the iLok License Manager, which is the same thing as/includes the latest PACE License Support, without any issues. So I downloaded it again separately, restarted my computer, no issues.
After lots of digging, and checking the 'legacy installers' section of iLok's download website, I figured out the problem was that Pro Tools 11 installation was attempting to force the install of the legacy 'interlok driver' software (which is the legacy component of PACE License Support) for some reason, even though I already had the latest iLok license manager installed and functioning properly. I found out that 'InterLok Driver Setup Win64' was the culprit of the issue because I tried installing it on its own through the legacy download section of iLok's website, and encountered the same crashing error as when I would run the Pro Tools 11 install regularly.
The Pro Tools 11 install would tell me 'Avid requires the following software to be installed before proceeding' and lists 'PACE License support' even though I have already had the latest version (v5.2.1) downloaded and functioning correctly. When I would inevitably have to restore my PC once the crash loop occurred after installing Avid's version, I tried a system restore point instead of a startup repair. I noticed that, when Windows listed the programs I would lose when restoring, two instances of PACE License support appeared on the list of installed programs. One would be the current v5.2.1 (which always installed without any issues), and one would be the legacy 2.4.3! (Which is the version found in the PT11 install directory.)
So after ripping my hair out for hours a few nights ago, I finally reached a solution! When PT11 prompted the install of PACE License Support (as it always did, even though I had the newest version already installed), I clicked install, as I was always forced to do in order to continue. But, when Windows 10's action center popped up, asking if I trust the developer and wanted to install the software, I hit DON'T INSTALL. The PT11 install software did not error out and continued on as normal, allowing me to install PT11! I've tested Pro Tools and everything runs as it should.
I had tried everything else on iLok's support website, including doing a Windows 'repair' install, but this loophole turned out to be the only solution. PT11 installer should have recognized that I already had a later version of PACE License Support installed, and not tried to force me to install the broken legacy version as well. I had even contacted iLok customer support, but received short and disappointing replies - they didn't seem sympathetic to my situation.
This was their first message back:
TPKD.sys is only installed if you are using our legacy*Interlok*drivers. The*Interlok*drivers are not supported on*Windows*10. If you are using software that requires the*Interlok*drivers, you'll either need to use an older operating system to use that older software or you can contact the publisher of the software to see if they are willing to rewrap their software using a supported driver.
After I responded to them, explaining the solution I found on my own, they simply replied with,
Avid is already aware of this. The legacy version isn't installed with later version of Pro Tools.*
Well that's great, but what about everyone on Windows 10 with Pro Tools 11 or older? I urged them to make a note of this on their website to help people in my scenario but they didn't respond.
I want to make everyone aware of this issue so they can continue to use Pro Tools 11 and earlier on Windows 10 systems! I understand that Windows 10 isn't officially supported on Pro Tools 11 or earlier according to Avid's website, but I had been using my same PT11 software on my previous Windows 10 laptop for years without any issue. Perhaps this was due to a recent update to Windows 10 that caused those legacy PACE drivers to make Windows 10 completely freak out?
Case in point, I'm not sure why Pro Tools 11 and older's installs require PACE's legacy driver to install even though PACE's newest drivers are already installed on the system, and I'm glad I found a loophole. I hope this helps out even just a couple of people out there with older versions of Pro Tools on a Windows 10 machine - I can't be the only one!!

Users and developers alike considered Internet Explorer to be the top example of what technology can do and the foundation of what it means to be truly innovative. While the internet has evolved and a lot of people have started using one of the large numbers of internet browsers available today, Internet Explorer still has die-hard fans all over the globe.

After the quick setup, you'll be taken to the MSN homepage. On this page you can view the latest news headlines, see world news, news specifically about your city and more. At the top of the page there are icons directing you to other Microsoft software and apps, like the Microsoft store, Outlook, One Drive, and the Microsoft Office Suite. Entering anything into the MSN search bar redirects you to the Bing search engine. The interface is incredibly simple, with four icons to the top right taking you to menus for favorites and history, an icon for tools, one for settings, and one to bring you back to the home page. There is no clutter and tabs are quite thin - even more so than some competitors.
There are a few features that we find really cool, and one of our favorites is the ability to pin websites. If there's a website that you visit frequently, just drag the tab down to the task bar and bam - the website is pinned! From then on, clicking on the icon brings up the page in Internet Explorer and changes the tab's appearance - navigational arrows are now the color of the site's icon (like light blue for Twitter or pink for Instagram) and the logo sits on the far left of the address bar.
Back to privacy, which is at the top of our list of important things to know about browsers. Microsoft is very transparent about security and the data that they collect from users. Depending on your settings, Microsoft does store data about the products and features that you use through their services. Some of this data is required by law, and some of it is taken in exchange for the use of their products, but most times this is basic information like your name and email address. Our take
Internet Explorer is a basic, decent browser. No new-fangled add-ons or extensions, no bells and whistles. If we could describe it in one word, ‘standard’ would be it. It can handle searches, bookmarking, videos at a decent resolution, and some light browser games. Don't look to do too much with this browser besides surface activities like researching, reading, and some occasional downloading of small files.
Should you download it?
You should download Internet Explorer if you're a very basic internet user. If you prefer paper books to Kindles, and writing letters to texting, this browser will be up your alley. You can watch videos, but after testing a few on YouTube, switching to another tab and then back again would cause the browser to crash. Avoid websites with a lot of ads and graphics, as those will make IE crash as well. This browser has come a long way in terms of speed with most sites loading in about three seconds or less. With that said, there are more things that you can't do than what you can, especially if you're trying this browser out after using others like Firefox or Chrome. No extensions, no heavy downloading, and playing browser games is nearly impossible for an extended amount of time.
